Holly Dennis, CVT
Veterinary Technician, St. Petersburg College, 2010

Holly joined our staff after moving to California from Florida in February 2011. She graduated from St. Petersburg College where she earned her degree in Veterinary Technology in May 2010 and passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam shortly thereafter. Holly plans to continue classes to earn her Bachelor’s degree. Holly’s interests include hiking, biking, and exploring the beautiful Monterey Peninsula and beyond! She and her husband, David, share their home in Pacific Grove with their cat “Penny”.

Jan Fernandez, RVT, Technician Supervisor
Vassar College B. A. 1976 Hispanic Studies/
Secondary Education
Hartnell College A. S. 1998 Animal Health Technology

Jan has the distinction of being the employee with the longest history at Ocean View. She began as an intern while studying Animal Science at Hartnell College in 1996 and has worked here ever since. She has 2 grown children of whom she is very proud, and lives with two cats and a 15 year old dog who was born at Ocean View. She enjoys hiking, tennis, bird watching and has been a docent at the Monterey Bay Aquarium for 20 years.

Melissa Rhoades, RVT
BS Biology, University of Oregon 2002
Foothill Junior college & Dallas Community College
RVT licensed 2010

Melissa was born and raised in the Bay area. After graduating from college with her biology degree, Melissa returned home and took a job as a kennel assistant. She fell in love with the veterinary field and began working towards becoming a licensed technician. Over the past few years Melissa has worked at Veterinary Hospitals in the bay area, Maryland and San Diego. Melissa relocated to Monterey in 2011 and eagerly joined the team at Ocean View.

Melissa resides in Pacific Grove with her husband and their sharpie mix “Sobi”.  Melissa loves living on the Central Coast because she is able to do all of her favorite activities such as hiking, kayaking and mountain biking.

Alyson Singer, RVT
BS Biology, Colorado State University 1998
AS Animal Health Technology, Hartnell College
RVT licensed 2004
While earning her B. S. degree in Biology at Colorado State University, Alyson spent much of her free time exploring the Rocky mountains and southwestern states. Her love of travel, camping and adventure led her to some of the most beautiful landscapes in the U.S.  After finally settling down on the central coast, she joined the Ocean View team in 2000.

After realizing she loved veterinary medicine and working with animals everyday, she pursued her A. S. degree in Animal Health Technology (at Hartnell College) and became a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2004.

In addition to volunteering at several wildlife rehabilitation facilities and animal rescue organizations, in 2005, Alyson fulfilled her childhood dream of traveling to Africa. While spending three months there, she volunteered at C.A.R.E. (www.primatecare.org.za), and had the rare opportunity to help injured native wildlife and play with orphaned baboons!

More recently, Alyson has gained experience working as a wildlife research assistant conducting fieldwork in the Coconino National Forest, AZ and as a clinical research assistant at a medical teaching hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

She spends most of her free time enjoying nature and the outdoors; so when she’s not working hard, you’d be sure to find her exploring the Big Sur coast, hiking Sobranes Canyon or cycling around town.

She loves her own babies and shares her home with her “children”, Harley and Louie, adopted “daughter” Smiglet and foundling parakeet, Birdie (and his girlfriend!).

Greta Stearman, RVT, Technician Supervisor
BA Biology, College of Saint Rose 1994
RVT Veterinary Technician, Penn Foster College Licensed 2009

GretaGreta’s early career path involved work primarily with marine mammals. She eventually settled on the California Sea Otter in 1996 when she relocated from upstate NY to Monterey. Greta worked closely with sick/injured/
orphaned sea otters at the Monterey Bay Aquarium until 2004 when she joined Ocean View Veterinary Hospital. Emergencies are her favorite cases.

Greta spends most of her free time hanging out with her partner in crime, Miles, the “coolest dog ever”, “Clyde”, and their latest addition “Omar”. All rescues of course. She would like to say her cats( Flea and Tyler) were as in love with her as her dogs…but they ARE cats and she is just happy that they allow her to live with them.
